Photography: Outdoor Ball Hockey

I feel like it's been ages since I've photographed any sort of live event. I was approached to go take images of a ball hockey league. I accepted, of course, and I soon realized how rusted I was. First, my photography bag was a mess. Missing most of the things I need to bring with me on a shoot and then when I got there it took me a while to adjust to the fast pace of a sports game.
It didn't take too long but I had to review my settings a few times just to be sure.
As you may have noticed, the whole rink was surrounded by a protective net, which is perfect for keeping the ball in play but not so much to photograph the players.
Fortunately, I brought my 90mm F2.0 which made the mesh disappear with its long focal length and its wide aperture. Now, that was fantastic since I could easily move all around the rink and take any angle I wanted. I'm amazed at how magically the 90mm made the net invisible, I wasn't trying to shoot in the gaps but shot right through it and often from a foot or so.
I thought my 35mm F1.4 would also work but I was wrong. It didn't quite work as you can see below.
In the end I had a lot of fun photographing the hockey ball matches.
J'ai l'impression que cela fait des lunes que je n'ai pas photographié un événement en direct. On m'a demandé d'aller prendre des photos d'une ligue de hockey-balle. J'ai accepté, bien sûr, et je me suis vite rendu compte à quel point j'étais rouillé. D'abord, mon sac de photographie était en désordre. Il me manquait la plupart des choses que je dois apporter avec moi pour une séance photo, et puis quand je suis arrivé, il m'a fallu un certain temps pour m'adapter au rythme rapide d'un match de sport.
Cela n'a pas pris trop de temps, mais j'ai dû revoir mes réglages plusieurs fois pour être sûr.
Comme vous l'avez peut-être remarqué, toute la surface de jeu était entourée d'un filet de protection, ce qui est parfait pour garder la balle en jeu mais pas tellement pour photographier les joueurs.
Heureusement, j'ai apporté mon 90mm F2.0 qui a fait disparaître le filet avec son long objectif et sa grande ouverture. C'était fantastique puisque du coup je pouvais facilement me déplacer tout autour de la patinoire et prendre l'angle que je voulais. Je suis étonné de voir à quel point ma 90 mm a rendu le filet invisible comme par magie. Je n'essayais même pas de viser entre les maillons, mais je posais simplement à travers et souvent d'un pied ou deux du filet.
Je pensais que ma 35 mm F1.4 fonctionnerait aussi, mais je me trompais. Elle n'a pas vraiment fonctionné comme vous pouvez le voir ci-dessous.
Au final, j'ai eu beaucoup de plaisir à photographier les parties de hockey-balle.
