5 Odd books I have learned from
5 livres inattendus dont j'ai appris des choses
As promised yesterday, I compiled a list of five books I've learned something unexpected from. I could probably make this list very long but let's start with five.
1. Killing Commendador by Haruki Murakami
The book revolves around this enigmatic painting called Killing Commendador. Murakami's description of this painting is so detailed and rich, the thought process behind the main character when he observes Killing Commendador and his process of creating portraits are so profound that every artist should read this book to gain that vision of art. I've never looked at an art piece the same after reading this book.
2. Man Behind The Noze (Bozo the Clown's biography) by Larry Bozo Harmon
You would think this would be about being hilarious funny adventures. Ok, it is, and probably beyond what you'd expect. But the life lessons in this book are very strong. The one that touched me the most is that I can.
"I thought of all those boys and girls [...], and I wanted to give them the encouragement to know that one day, if they worked hard enough, they could be doing fantastic, wonderful things that maybe they didn't even dare to dream because they didn't even yet have the belief in themselves, because nobody has told them they could. That's always been one of my goal with Bozo: to tell kids, both the young ones and the older ones in their forties and fifties, that they can."
3. Wizard's First Rule by Terry Goodkind
In this fantasy book, I got one of my favorite quotes that stuck with me and that I keep repeating still today.
"Think about the solution, not the problem"
4. The Icarus Deception by Seth Godin
Most of my ethics about art come from this book. I never thought this book from Seth, who's a business thinker, would be so relevant to art. It is. And should be a must-read for any type of artist. Not the last time you'll read me mentioning Seth.
5. Introduction to NLP
NLP (Neuro-Linguistic Programming) is a fascinating and expansive field. Anyone reading about NLP will find some gold nuggets to help them in their life. The beauty of it is that with such a varied field, everyone will take away something personal from it that's different. Not going to go into more details now, I'm sure some NLP concepts will pop into my discussions here and there.
I could go on talking about each of those at length but I think you get it. Sometimes you receive these knowledge gifts from books that you didn't expect. That's what life is, when you read many varied books you link those to your own experience and make it richer. Go read books now :)
Comme promis hier, j'ai dressé une liste de cinq livres qui m'ont appris quelque chose d'inattendu. Je pourrais probablement rendre cette liste très longue mais commençons par cinq.
1. Killing Commendador par Haruki Murakami
Le livre tourne autour de cette peinture énigmatique appelée Killing Commendador. La description que Murakami fait de cette peinture est si détaillée et si riche, le processus de pensée derrière le personnage principal lorsqu'il observe Killing Commendador et son processus de création de portraits sont si profonds que tout artiste devrait lire ce livre pour acquérir cette vision de l'art. Je n'ai jamais regardé une œuvre d'art de la même façon après avoir lu ce livre.

On pourrait penser qu'il s'agit d'aventures hilarantes et drôles. Ok, c'est le cas, et probablement au-delà de ce que vous attendez. Mais les leçons de vie dans ce livre sont très fortes. Celle qui m'a le plus touché est que je peux.
"J'ai pensé à tous ces garçons et ces filles [...], et je voulais leur donner l'encouragement de savoir qu'un jour, s'ils travaillaient assez dur, ils pourraient faire des choses fantastiques, merveilleuses, dont ils n'osaient peut-être même pas rêver parce qu'ils n'avaient pas encore la foi en eux-mêmes, parce que personne ne leur avait dit qu'ils pouvaient le faire. Cela a toujours été l'un de mes objectifs avec Bozo : dire aux enfants, aussi bien aux jeunes qu'aux plus âgés dans la quarantaine ou la cinquantaine, qu'ils peuvent le faire."
3. Wizard's First Rule par Terry Goodkind
Dans ce livre de fantasy, j'ai obtenu une de mes citations préférées qui m'a marqué et que je me répète encore aujourd'hui.
"Penses à la solution, pas au problème"
4. The Icarus Deception de Seth Godin
La plupart de mes principes éthiques sur l'art proviennent de ce livre. Je n'aurais jamais pensé que ce livre de Seth, qui est un penseur du monde des affaires, serait aussi pertinent pour l'art. Mais il l'est. Et devrait être une lecture incontournable pour tout type d'artiste. Ce n'est pas la dernière fois que vous me verrez mentionner Seth.
5. Introduction à la PNL
La PNL (Programmation Neuro-Linguistique) est un domaine fascinant et très vaste. Toute personne lisant sur la PNL trouvera des pépites d'or pour l'aider dans sa vie. La beauté de la chose est qu'avec un domaine aussi varié, chacun en retirera quelque chose de personnel et de différent. Je ne vais pas entrer dans les détails maintenant, je suis sûr que certains concepts de la PNL apparaîtront dans mes discussions ici et là.
Je pourrais continuer à parler longuement de chacun de ces livres, mais je pense que vous avez compris. Parfois, on reçoit des livres des cadeaux de connaissances auxquels on ne s'attendait pas. C'est la vie, quand vous lisez des livres variés, vous les reliez à votre propre expérience et la rendez plus riche. Allez lire des livres maintenant :)
