Attraction vs attention
Have you ever thought about why certain photos stand out? I'm often fascinated by that question. Why do specific images catch my attention? But recently, I figured that was the wrong question to ask.
The proper question is, why do certain photos KEEP my attention?
Because eye-catching images are NOT necessarily good images. Most often than not, they are not good images.
Catching attention is easy. A woman in tight Lululemon pants or a man's six pack will do that; Catch your attention. A red Ferrari will do that. The Eiffel tower is also good at that. A sunset does a good job of grabbing attention. A macro photo of a bee on a flower. The list goes on.
None of these subjects have anything to do with a good photograph, yet we are all attracted by them, they grab attention. But half a second later we're looking at the next attention grabber. There are whole feeds of thousands of photos of women running in tights, and men's six packs and sunsets and cars and photos of world iconic places.
Find those images that you can't take your eyes off. Images that seek your understanding, that keep you looking for meaning or asking questions. Those images are hard to find on social media which prioritizes the attention grabbers. But by simply asking the question, "Why do certain images KEEP my attention?" you'll find yourself less attracted by attention-grabbing images and more attracted by deeper meaning types of images.
What image elements keep you interested in certain photos?
P.S.: I admit that a photo of woman with a six pack in tights leaning on a red Ferrari holding a flower with a bee on it in front of the Eiffel tower at sunset would keep my attention for more than half a second :)

Parce que les images qui attirent l'attention ne sont PAS nécessairement de bonnes images. En fait, le plus souvent, ce ne sont pas de bonnes images.
Attirer l'attention est facile. Une femme en pantalon moulant Lululemon ou les six packs d'homme le feront : attirer votre attention. Une Ferrari rouge le fera. La tour Eiffel aussi. Un coucher de soleil est un bon moyen d'attirer l'attention. Une photo macro d'une abeille sur une fleur. Et la liste continue.
Aucun de ces sujets n'a rien à voir avec une bonne photo, et pourtant nous sommes tous attirés par eux, ils attirent l'attention. Mais une demi-seconde plus tard, nous regardons la prochaine photo qui attire l'attention. Il existe des flux entiers de milliers de photos de femmes courant en collants, d'abdominaux sculptés d'hommes, de couchers de soleil et de photos de lieux emblématiques du monde.
Contrairement il fait trouver ces images que vous ne pouvez pas quitter des yeux. Des images qui cherchent votre compréhension, qui vous poussent à chercher un sens ou à poser des questions. Ces images sont difficiles à trouver sur les médias sociaux qui donnent la priorité à ceux qui attirent l'attention. Mais en vous posant simplement la question "Pourquoi certaines images GARDENT-elles mon attention ?", vous vous rendrez compte que vous serez moins attiré par les images qui attirent l'attention et serez plus attiré par celles qui ont un sens plus profond.
Quels sont les éléments d'image qui maintiennent votre intérêt pour certaines photos ?
P.S.: J'admets qu'une photo d'une femme en collants avec un six-pack assise sur une Ferrari rouge tenant une fleur avec une abeille devant la tour Eiffel au coucher du soleil retiendrait mon attention plus d'une demi-seconde :)
