Le père de nos pères (The father of our fathers) is a book by Bernard Werber, French science-fiction author which sets the stage to explore the origins of humanity through an investigative story.
It's the first time I read a Werber book who has been highly recommended to me. Having just finished a Murakami book, the bar was very high. The story and character development were far from Murakami but the value of Werber's story is the questioning about the origin of humanity that arises as you read. The father of our fathers refers to the first human being, the one that started it all. The book explores many possibilities, some that fit the stories from the bible and others that fit modern science and others just bizarre which still makes you ponder. What if it was true?
If you're interested in our history and origin it's a worthwhile read, just don't expect to be taken aback by the story or the characters. It'll definitely make you think about a few things.

C'est la première fois que je lis un livre de Werber qui m'a été chaudement recommandé. Comme je viens de terminer un livre de Murakami, la barre était très haute. L'histoire et le développement des personnages étaient loin de Murakami, mais la valeur de l'histoire de Werber est dans le questionnement sur l'origine de l'humanité qui se pose au fil de la lecture. Le père de nos pères fait référence au premier être humain, celui qui a tout commencé. Le titre aurait tout aussi bien pu être la mère de nos mères. Le livre explore de nombreuses possibilités, certaines qui correspondent aux histoires de la bible et d'autres qui correspondent à la science moderne et d'autres encore, tout simplement bizarres, qui vous font réfléchir. Et si c'était vrai ?
Si vous vous intéressez à notre histoire et à nos origines, c'est un livre qui vaut la peine d'être lu, mais ne vous attendez pas à être surpris par l'histoire ou les personnages. Mais l'histoire vous fera certainement réfléchir sur nos origines.
