Weekly Gems 3 - Courage - Ego - Steve Harvey - Human ResourcesPosted Sep 16, 2016 by Mathieu Chiasson
This week is all about you, change, success, soaring and human resources. Yes, you read that right. I DARE talk about human resources on a Friday... I apologize for my evilness but read through and you'll see it's not all that bad.
Quote I’m pondering
“It’s not that some people have willpower and others don’t… It’s that some people are ready to change and others are not.” - James Gordon
Interesting Podcast I listened to this week
This short Podcast is worth listening to. It's a chapter from the Ryan Holiday book Ego is the Enemy. It's a great reflection of our priorities, why we pursue things that often don't matter. Great food for thoughts. It's like broccoli and lean chicken for your mind!
Video I enjoyed this week
Steve Harvey (the Family Feud guy) nails this success analogy. You got to jump to open you parachute and soar. But that’s not all there is to it… watch the video for the complete story.
Book I recommend reading
I admit I wasn’t sure about this book. But it was in my library for over a year, that’s long enough, I had to have a look at it. I read the first chapter and I was hooked. Amy Morin lays out 13 things not to do (which I’m sure everyone does to a certain point) and structures every chapter with a real life example, a checklist of things to look for, an explanation of why this behaviour is bad and ways to improve each areas of your life. Some times it was an eye opener and others a great reminder of things to not fall back into doing. I highly recommend for everyone who has a brain!
Mobile game I’m playing
I’m a programmer and I always like seeing games or program which tries to bring programming to everyday people. This game is beautifully made, funny and will challenge you to build “little programs” to help this business’ human resource department. Go on this career journey!
