#MyWeeklyGems 11 - Obama - Leadership - Compassion - Dedication

Posted Nov 11, 2016 by Mathieu Chiasson

First I want to thank all the brave women and men who gave their lives to fight for our freedom. Lets never forget.

Sometimes I get articles and videos from what people share on social media. But this week all people shared were comments on the US election. Nevertheless, within all the generalization, amateur analysis and political venting one thing stood out for me.

Now former US President Obama’s speech on Wednesday outlined many of the philosophies I’m sharing here with all of you. Before I share where you can get the full transcript of the speech here are are few comments...

Obama’s quote of the week

“...regardless of whether your candidate won or lost, the sun would come up in the morning.” - Barack Obama

Obama’s action item of the week

No matter what situation you’re in you should always strive to make the best of it and put your full effort into it. Complaining about circumstances won’t help you much.

“...work as hard as we can to ensure that this is a successful transition for the President-Elect, because, we are now all rooting for his success in uniting and leading the country.” - Barack Obama

Obama’s outcome of the week

Whatever you do make sure you leave it in a better state for the following person. Think of the next person. Make their lives better.

"That remarkable work [done by my team] has left the next president with a stronger, better country, than the one that existed eight years ago.” - Barack Obama

Obama’s leadership lesson

When Obama talks about achievements and the work done over the past eight years you’ll see that not once he takes credit. Each time he praises the work of his team and others. Using the word team implies equality and cooperation.

Obama’s final though

Life’s not always easy, there are setbacks and sometimes things we perceive as negative end up moving us ahead. So stay positive, keep moving even if you don’t feel you’re moving forward, keep going.

"Sometimes, you lose an argument. Sometimes you lose an election. The path that this country has taken has never been a straight line. We zig and zag and, sometimes, we move in ways that some people think is forward, others think is moving back.” - Barack Obama

We’ll sure miss Obama but he made sure to leave the US in a better shape than when he started. Remember that whatever happens, the sun will rise tomorrow. Keep your head up and keep moving towards your goals.

Ah yes, here’s the full transcript of his speech.
